Questions and Answers

You Asked, I  Answered

How is an Ayurvedic Treatment different than a regular massage?

If you go into a massage studio, you will get a treatment focused exclusively on your muscles. In an Ayurvedic treatment, you will receive lymphatic flushing, energy clearing, herbal detoxification, dosha balancing, AND muscle release. In addition, there are numerous Ayurvedic modalities; your particular treatment will be selected and customized based upon your current mind-body state. I wrote an article on what makes  Ayurvedic treatments unique. You can read it here. Given that Ayurvedic treatments work so many layers of your being, the benefits are vast and include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Enhances body awareness

  • Clears physiological and energetic pathways

  • Creates deep relaxation

  • Detoxifies and cleanses the lymphatic system

  • Enhances the immune system

  • Improves overall well-being

  • Boosts circulation

  • Increases vitality and rejuvenation

  • Balances Vata, Pitta, and Kapha

  • Promotes healthy skin

  • Reduces stress

  • Soothes the body and mind

What are the benefits of the bioenergetic crystal mat?

While many practitioners charge a fee for the use of the bioenergetic crystal mat, I believe that it should be included as part of your healing treatment. The biomat is composed of 13 pounds of crushed amethyst, 180 jade stones, and 90 tourmaline stones.

Amethyst emits a steady flow of negative ions which counteract the overabundance of positively charged ions absorbed through our modern lifestyle. Energetically, amethyst balances the nervous system and opens the crown chakra.

Jade is known to facilitate physical healing, increase abundance, and to energetically open the heart. It is also thought to have potent anti-aging effects.

Tourmaline has been found to relieve stress, enhance immunity, and increase spiritual receptivity.

As these stones are heated with FIR, their healing properties penetrate deeply into the muscles and tissues. This enhances detoxification and decreases inflammation. The overall effect is greater wellbeing.

Why are your bodywork treatments more expensive than a massage?

Having worked as a massage therapist for 12 years and Ayurvedic Therapist for 8, I am able to offer my guests a high level of service that effectively assess and addresses their specific needs. In addition, I maintain a sacred space for clients by energetically cleansing both myself and the physical space between each guest. I also strive to maintain a concentrated level of healing awareness during sessions. (Having worked with many massage therapists over the years, I can assure you that many are not holding a high mental frequency during sessions. They are thinking about what they will do after work, how to pay the bills, relationship problems, etc. All of those thoughts, which are a form of energy, are absorbed by the client.) It is as important to have a present and energetically clear therapist as it is to have a physically adept one; it is my intention to offer you both.

In addition, I use only the highest quality technologies, crystals, and oils. Oftentimes, the supplies that I use are three or four times the cost of their inferior counterparts. Yet, I believe that when you come to me for healing work, you deserve only the best!

What types of oils do you use in your bodywork?

While most massage businesses use low quality, and hence cheap, oils, an Ayurvedic practitioner understands that oil is medicine. Oils draw impurities, known as ama, from the deeper layers of the body's tissues. As such, I never compromise on my oil selection. My bodywork base oil has a nourishing blend of the following oils:

Organic Sesame Oil- Traditional Ayurvedic oil of choice. Has anti-inflammatory properties

Organic Flax Seed Oil - Contains appreciable amounts of essential fatty acids which are vital for healthy skin.
Organic Jojoba Oil - Light, highly penetrative oil. Good for all skin types. Non-comedogenic.
Organic Olive Oil - A moisturizing oil that is high in essential fatty acids.
Organic Shea Butter - Excellent for soothing, protecting and moisturizing the skin. Has properties known to regenerate cells and capillary circulation.

In addition, the essential oils used in treatment are of the purest quality. They are cold pressed or single distilled, tested for purity/potency, and hand selected for your individual constitution.

What do you do during a wellness coaching session?

Uncovering your most vibrant self can be hard to do when you're overwhelmed with work, constantly chasing kids around, or so stuck you don't have the energy to think beyond urgent tasks. Working one on one with a wellness coach provides you with the support and space to honestly examine yourself and what has brought you to your current status quo. As your wellness coach, I provide an honest and compassionate perspective on your blocks and provide many tools to overcome them. Together we identify your vision of wellness and determine strategies for attaining it. I hold you accountable for implementing your goals, challenge you to see where you may be holding yourself back, motivate you through the difficulties of change, and encourage ever increasing self awareness.
